I believe that personal knowledge management is self-care on a fundamental level.
That's why I'm thrilled that Marie Poulin and her partner Ben Borowski, creators of Notion Mastery, will host a workshop on a new approach to PKM as a well-being practice at our Second Brain Summit.
Marie and Ben will combine their obsessions with digital systems and organic permaculture, exploring how we can use the timeless principles of permaculture to cultivate healthier, wiser, more introspective information environments.
For the first time, they'll unveil a philosophy of "digital permaculture" that promises to revolutionize how we design workspaces as sites of personal self-discovery, not just productivity.
If you'd like an intro to Marie and her work, check out this video where Marie coaches me to make the most out of Notion.
To meet Marie, Ben, and many more of your favorite teachers and creators live, join us at the Second Brain Summit on October 3-4 in LA
End Your Projects Right: A Simple Completion Checklist
In last week's newsletter, I shared my Project Kickoff Checklist which I've used for years to launch new projects.
Today, I want to give you my Project Completion Checklist, a simple guide for capturing reusable knowledge assets and archiving a project when it's time to wrap up. Here are the key steps:
- Mark the project as complete: Use your task manager or project management app to indicate project completion and address any lingering tasks.
- Review associated goals: I keep track of my goals in a simple note and will mark a goal associated with the project as 'complete.' It always fills me with great satisfaction to do this.
- Organize Intermediate Packets: Your past experiences are a gold mine. Take a minute to review and move Intermediate Packets to suitable folders (e.g., in your Resources) for future access.
- Archive the project: Keep your workspace tidy and organized by moving the project folder to your Archives.
What about projects that aren't complete but need to go on the back burner? I recommend adding a 'current status' note with insights that can help you reignite the project later if needed. Then you can archive the project for now.
Life Update: Moving to Mexico, Writing My Next Book & Hosting Our First Conference
I've never done a "life update" video before, but three big events are coming up in my life that will change everything. So I want to share them with you...
- Our family is moving to Mexico
- We're hosting our first in-person Second Brain Summit in October in LA
- I'm writing my next book
I'll tell you more about the motivation and rationale behind these major changes and want to encourage you to follow along.
Brain Unveiled: Peak Into Other's Second Brains
When it comes to building your Second Brain, there's no clear-cut right or wrong. It's about what apps and workflows suit you and your unique needs.
As you're creating your own system, it can be helpful to see other people's systems as inspiration. You'll discover what's possible and might get a new idea to try out for yourself.
I came across the website Brain Unveiled recently which showcases a collection of Second Brains featuring Matt D'Avella, Ali Abdaal, Elizabeth Filips, Jeff Su, Easlo, and many others.
The best new app for newsletter reading
Newsletters from trusted friends and creators are major sources of information for me so I'm subscribed to dozens of them.
The problem is that they mix with other emails in my inbox, which isn't even the place where I want to read them anyway.
Now, there's a new app on the block specifically designed for reading newsletters: Meco.
Meco connects to Gmail and Outlook, allowing you to instantly move your newsletters to the app (and clear your inbox).
Once in Meco, you can group newsletters, set smart filters, bookmark your favorites, and read them in a scrollable feed. Overall, a much better reading experience than your inbox.
If you're a newsletter aficionado like me, I invite you to give Meco a try.
(We're an affiliate of Meco. That means when you click the link and sign up, we earn a commission at no extra cost to you.)
