How Projects Shape Who You Are

I can tell you, it's been so much fun workshopping the topics with our speakers at the Second Brain Summit to make them maximally useful for you.

Here's the next one I can announce...

Serial entrepreneur, consultant, and creator of Notion Life Design, August Bradley will lead a workshop on Turning Your Dreams Into Action Fueled by Knowledge.

August will help you break down your life aspirations into actionable stages — reverse engineering progress toward ambitious goals.

Together, we'll translate dreams into desired outcomes while integrating knowledge management to support and empower planning for each time horizon.

I already know this is going to be an amazing experience!

To meet August and many of your favorite teachers and creators in person, join us on October 3-4 in LA.

Should You Keep Private and Work Notes Separate or Combine Them in One Notetaking App?

I've seen so many people get stuck at this pivotal choice shaping their personal productivity system.

The decision largely depends on your specific needs and the context in which you operate.

For instance, if your workplace imposes strict guidelines on digital tools for security or compliance reasons, it might be necessary to separate your work-related notes.

On the other hand, personally, I prefer to use a single app like Evernote for both private and work notes, using a simple naming convention to keep them organized.

It's also worth noting that using multiple apps for different types of notes can be beneficial. For example, you might find that certain apps cater better to personal journaling or creative projects, while others are more suited for structured work projects. I often use Notion for certain projects because its functionalities better support the outcome I'm looking for.

In any case, the key is to ensure that your system allows you to capture and retrieve information easily, without causing too much friction or cognitive overload.

I'm curious...what's your preference? Hit reply and let me know.

How Your Projects Shape Who You Are

We often think of our personality as something fixed—either determined by our genes or shaped by our early childhood experiences. But what if there was a third factor that could change who we are at our core?

That's the fascinating premise behind Brian R. Little's research on personal projects.

Little's work suggests that the projects we choose to pursue—whether it's learning to code, starting a new relationship, or writing a book—can fundamentally alter our personalities and life trajectories.

It's a powerful idea that puts agency back in our hands: by choosing our projects wisely, we can shape who we become.

As someone who's seen firsthand how creative pursuits can transform lives, I find this research incredibly exciting.

If you've ever wondered how your side projects or passion pursuits might be changing you, check out my short blog post.
