Hot or Cold? The ‘Katy Perry’ Approach to PARA
The PARA Method—Projects, Areas, Resources, and Archives—has been my go-to system for organizing information for over a decade. It’s simple, powerful, and works like magic to keep everything in its place.
But for some, sorting everything into four categories can feel like a lot. That’s why, during our recent Office Hours in the Second Brain Membership, we explored an even simpler approach—one that keeps the essence of PARA while stripping away any complexity.
Enter the Hot or Cold Method (dubbed the ‘Katy Perry’ approach to PARA by one of our members):
- Hot: Active projects—anything you’re working on right now.
- Cold: Everything else—reference materials, templates, dormant projects, archives.
That’s it. No overthinking. Just a clear, intuitive way to keep your focus where it matters while keeping the rest neatly tucked away.
I’d love to hear—does this resonate with you? Have you experimented with other ways to simplify PARA? Hit reply and let me know!
Forget About Setting Goals. Do THIS Instead (the Somatic Method)
This is the method I’ve used for years to figure out what I want to do in the next year of my life.
It’s called the Excitement Map and uses a somatic approach to turn your body's signals into a clear, inspiring vision for the future.
In this video, I show you how to align your physical sensations with your ambitions for a more authentic, fulfilling path forward.
