Thirty Minutes to Reset Before August

Every month inside the Second Brain Membership, we go all in on one theme.

In August, it's “Finding Alpha”.

The idea: AI gives you the average answer, and your edge lives upstream of it, in the details, sources, and firsthand experience it can't reach.

All month, you'll put that idea into practice, starting with auditing your information diet and hunting down the details worth keeping.

Our team is running hands-on implementation sessions every Tuesday to help you apply it.

On Thu., Aug. 6, I'm hosting a live Masterclass on finding alpha in my own work and taking your questions.

The Productivity Puzzle Solved: Find & Fix Your Weakest Link

This is one of the most underrated ideas in productivity, and I think it deserves way more attention than it gets.

The Theory of Constraints comes from Eliyahu Goldratt's 1984 book The Goal, built for factory floors and supply chains. It holds up just as well for a single person trying to get more done.

Every system, including yours, has one weakest link.

The video walks through five steps to find and fix it: identify, exploit, subordinate, elevate, repeat. I also broke it down in a full blog series.

Thirty Minutes to Reset Before August

Tomorrow is the last day of July. Before August starts, I encourage you to spend half an hour refreshing your Second Brain system.

Five things to check:

  • Cross off any goals that you’ve achieved, and add whatever's new.
  • Archive projects that ended or got cancelled along the way.
  • Look at your areas of responsibility. Are you keeping up where it matters?
  • Check the someday/maybe list. Anything on there ready to start now?
  • Reprioritize your tasks based on what's ahead in August.

Thirty minutes, once, before the month turns over.

Which one of these five is most overdue for you? Do it before August 1.

Reply and tell me what you find, or what you moved.

A Practical Systems Course, Free for Now

My friend Ben Meer has a system for almost everything: birthdays, weekly planning, savings, staying in touch with friends.

He turned 52 of them into a course called Year of Systems. One new system every week for a year, covering health, money, relationships, and work.

The course normally costs $297. Right now it's free if you pre-order his upcoming book, How to Be Good at Life, out October 6. Pre-order from any retailer, and you'll get instant access to the course, months before the book ships.

If you like practical ideas that make life easier, this one is worth a look.

We're getting really close to opening enrollment for Cohort 2 of The AI Second Brain on August 26. Over the past few months, my team and I have been rebuilding this program from the ground up based on everything we learned in Cohort 1. I wrote a blog post breaking down the 10 biggest updates we made for Cohort 2, and why each one matters. Starting tomorrow, I'm also kicking off a new email series where I'll share what's happening with AI right now, and why it's made most people's productivity...

August is here! And we’re getting close to opening enrollment for cohort 2 of The AI Second Brain on Aug. 26. The cohort runs Sep. 17 through Oct. 8: three weeks oflive sessions with eight alumni mentors leading implementation labs, each bringing a different specialty and background to the table. We’re updating the curriculum based on everything we’ve learned and what’s changed in AI in the last half year. And if you want more time with me directly, we’re adding a Premium tier with weekly...

I'm back from this year's Wholesome Mastermind, our fourth annual gathering of authors, educators, and online creators. One thing keeps sticking with me from the weekend: You don't know what's possible until you see someone else do it. Reading about it doesn't do the same thing as watching someone real pull it off in front of you. That's what this group gives me every year. People building wildly different businesses, earning a living in so many different ways. But they all put their whole...
